As part of an extensive downtown revitalization effort, the City of Fontana searched for prospective developers to address a need for affordable senior housing units. The Opportune Companies fulfilled that need with The Village at Sierra. The award winning premier was named the Senior Project of the Year and was awarded the Golden Nugget Award for design.
The three story California Mission style community consists of 108 total units. The property offers a pedestrian-friendly facility which is close to senior services, and public transportation. Residents enjoy an abundance of amenities that include a large community room, fitness center, lounge, media center, swimming pool, spa, cabana and a secured courtyard that features a barbeque and outdoor lounge area.
This community was built on a city block directly across the street from a transit center. Accordingly, this project was heralded by the tax credit allocation committee as a perfect transportation orientated development (TOD). It was a major catalyst in the downtown redevelopment as it removed blight and helped contribute to the vision and momentum for a revitalized downtown which quickly followed by other impressive developments.
The Opportune Companies relationship with the City of Fontana dates back over 20 years. Due to the success and impact of the Village at Sierra, the City followed up with three additional and adjacent affordable senior communities. Modeling after the exemplar Village at Sierra, came the Fountains at Sierra and the Gardens at Sierra totaling 186 units. A fourth project, The Plaza at Sierra, consisting of 90 units, is currently under construction.
The Village at Sierra is home to seniors whose incomes range between 45% to 60% of the area median income. Social services are provided to all residents as well as planned activities, events, and seminars.
