In 2008, the City of Fontana adopted the Valley Boulevard Neighborhood Revitalization Area ("VBNRA"), which is its first Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area ("NRSA"). It was adopted to address several neighborhood needs including research that showed eight of the nine Census Block Groups in the VBNRA had higher percentages of people living below the poverty line. The City recognized that providing affordable housing in this community would be an important part of its neighborhood revitalization plan.
The Fontana Housing Authority purchased 15 acres of land located at the northwest corner of Valley Blvd. and Juniper Avenue and selected the Opportune Companies to develop the Paseo Verde communities. The total community consists of 142, two and three bedroom town-home style housing units with spacious community areas, multipurpose rooms, office areas, and miscellaneous other uses. Laundry facilities and tuck under enclosed direct access parking will also be included within each unit. Amenities will include a swimming pool, playgrounds, BBQ areas, open areas and other.
The homes will be provided to families whose income ranges between 30% to 50% of the area median income. Resident social services are provided to all residents as well as planned activities, events, and seminars. The entire project was completed in 2012.
